Match fixing has Of course been in the news more often, recently with Sparta defender Beugelsdijk being suspected of match fixing. The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has now released a report on 42 suspects betting those are placed in the first 3 months of 2023. When it comes to online gambling there are several agencies that monitor whether this is done in an honest way. Especially in sports betting, suspicious situations sometimes occur. As a result, organizations such as IBIA try to address this type of problem so that gambling is carried out in a sporting and fair way without affecting the sports world in a negative way.

In the report released by IBIA, it states that 42 reports have been made of suspicious sports matches. These are notifications for the following sports:

  • Football – 10 times
  • Table tennis – 10 times
  • Volleyball-4 times
  • Swimming – 3 times
  • eSports – 1 time

A drop in suspicious bets

This 42 suspicious sports games is a reduction compared to the previous quarter. In the last 3 months of 2021, a total of 69 reports of suspicious sports betting and sports betting were made.

The IBIA monitors bets placed on sports matches. For example, they have an average of 650,000 sports games annually that they monitor for suspicious bets. At 99.96% of these bets, nothing suspicious is found during the online gambling at these matches. The bottom line is that every 2700 matches there is a suspicious match in between where a strange betting pattern takes place, causing the alarm bells at the IBIA to go off.

Match fixing costs the betting offices and online casino games s average $25 million annually because they have to pay out bets on manipulated sports matches.
