Gambling ads may not yet be off the tv as of January 1, 2023

On Thursday 6 October, a debate took place in the House of Representatives on gambling advertising in New Zealand. Minister of legal protection Franc Weerwind indicated in this debate that the initial ban as of 1 January may not yet take effect. This is while politics is very much hammering this ban on unfocused gambling advertisements. However, the bill that should ban these advertisements must first be submitted for advice to the Council of State, as a result it may not be ready on time and approved for entry on January 1, 2023.

Where more than a hundred million dollars are freed up for the creation of advertising and sponsorship, only a pot of several million has been freed up for Addiction Prevention. This is especially pressing with SP MP van Nispen.
