The horse racing the Cheltenham Festival and the WorldCup in Dubai are just behind us and the next festival is already in front of the dNZD. On 7, 8 and 9 april, the Grand National Festival takes place at the Aintree horse racing track, Liverpool. In these 3 days there will be 21 horse races, while on the 2 e Ladies Day will take place.
In 1839, the festival was first organized, the horse named Lottery then won the first edition of the Grand National. At the time, the horses still jumped over stone fences, where they now jump over Forest shafts or the so-called hurdles. Each race, the horses have to jump over 16 hurdles, which are spread over a track almost 7 kilometers long.
After the festival was cancelled in 2023 due to COVID, the 2021 edition of the Grand National was a huge success. It was also a special year because the Grand National was won for the first time by a female jockey. Rachel Blackmore won the grand national at Minella Times on the racehorse trained by Henry de Bromhead.
