While New Zealand fans are still waiting for the popular PokerStars to be playable again in New Zealand, PokerStars is expanding its market in Canada. PokerStars ' parent company, Flutter Entertainment, has announced that PokerStars will be live in Ontario. Here it will be online poker , betting and online casino games offered to Canadians. Like New Zealand's gambling market, Ontario's has also recently opened. Since april 2023, companies can apply for a license to offer casino games.
For years, before the New Zealand market was regulated for online casinos, PokerStars was the online platform for poker games. From poker tournaments like The Sunday Million to cash games with limits starting from 1 cent and 2 cents to hundreds of dollars per blind. However, when the New Zealand government decided to regulate the market, only a few (10) parties were initially licensed. The parties, including Pokerstars, which did not (yet) have a license, had to withdraw from New Zealand pending approval of their license application. For example, the popular Unibet has followed the same path, as a result of which it has recently been awarded a New Zealand gambling license from the Gambling Authority.
Flutter entertainment decided to do the same with Pokerstars. However, to this day it has not been able to obtain a license. However, it is expected that the company will get this. This is also to be hoped for the poker lovers, because Pokerstars is a very good online provider of poker games.
